I'm not especially concerned about my qualifications. 5 Macs at home running everything from Leopard to High Sierra. I've rescued multiple systems that the owners had given up on.

Check support comments for the APFS preboot volume issues - everything out there states you need to run Internet Recovery to address this. There is no reason for me to expect that the recovery partition wouldn't work to reset the system to OOB condition - except it doesn't. Easy fix on a new system is remove existing user profile and start fresh. Migration Assistant didn't function as expected (zero opportunity to merge user profiles as expected - grayed out). Worked fine, but when I tried to run Migration Assistant once my old machine was available, I could not import data. What's going on? Am I doing something wrong? I've been trying to get this dumb thing to work for over a week now and I'm at my wit's end! Shows that its starting internet recovery again Prompts me to select wifi network (I've connected to the router via CAT 5e cable, so I don't know why this is) Select bootable disk (by clicking up arrow)

Now the app will format your flash drive and ask you for your admin password. In the next window choose the disk you want to use ( your flash drive will be named differently ) 9. Now the app will ask you about your thumb drive, and it will tell you that will be completely erased before copying OS X Mavericks onto it…Ĩ. If you downloaded it from the app store ( step 2 ), choose ‘Use this copy’ħ. Once it found your Mavericks copy, it will ask you if you want to use the copy that it found or you want to use another copy. Now, the app will search for a copy of OS X Mavericks. You can choose Lion, Mountain Lion and of course, Mavericks. When you load the app, it will ask you which version of OS X do you want to make a boot disk of. dmg file to open it and drag-and-drop the DiskMaker X app into the Applications folderĥ. Get an an empty flash drive with at least 8GB of storageĤ.
